Every year, the Pune Chapter of IIT Bombay Alumni Association organizes Innovations, an annual event to showcase novel ideas in practice. Over the years, Innovations has evolved into a powerful brand built on integrity and excellence.
An innovation is defined as a novel idea in practice. The event primarily focuses on innovations originating from science and technology. In the past, innovations in the form of processes, products and applications from varied fields such as medicine, agriculture, mechanical/electronic/chemical technology, IT products, etc. have been showcased.
Submissions for Innovations 2011 are now open. Registration details are avaliable on the website.
Your entry may be a process, product, design, method, application or even a business model or a model of social entrepreneurship. Innovations from all fields are welcome. Entries are sought from individuals, research/academic institutions, NGOs, or corporate entities.
Eligibility criteria for submitting an innovation entry are
- Innovation must be a truly novel idea
- Must be based on the application of science / technology
- The idea should have been introduced in practice

When and Where
The day starts with keynote speech, followed by 14 fast-paced presentations by the innovators with Q&A. The exhibit floor will be open during lunch for talking to the innovators, viewing prototypes and more interaction. In the post-lunch session, 2 successful innovators will share their experiences with the audience describing how they scaled their innovative idea to a commercial success! In the evening, there is a networking dinner for innovators and participants. Innovators are provided with a stall at the event venue to exhibit and showcase their innovations. Innovators can distribute literature at the stall and interact with the visitors.
Chetan Maini, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles
|Chetan Maini is the Chief of Strategy and Technology at Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, Bangalore, India. Motivated by a desire to combat climate change, in 1994 Chetan co-founded the Reva Electric Car Company (REVA), one of the first electric car companies. In 2001 he launched the REVA electric vehicle in Bangalore and in September 2009 at the Frankfurt Auto Show he unveiled two new electric cars, the 4 seat REVA NXR and the 2 seat REVA NXG. In May 2010 the USD 7 billion Mahindra Group of India acquired a majority stake in REVA and the company was renamed Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles.Chetan has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan with a focus on solar electric vehicles and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, where he focused on hybrid electric vehicles. His interest in electric vehicles started while at the University of Michigan, where he was one of the leaders of the solar car team that won the GM Sun Race in the USA and came third in the World Solar Challenge 1990 in Australia. Chetan has 20 years’ experience in the development of six solar, hybrid and electric vehicles in the US and India.
Chetan holds patents in energy management systems for electric vehicles and has presented technical and keynote papers on electric vehicles globally. His papers have been published in several international journals.

IITBAA Pune Chapter has tied up with the Centre for Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at the IIMA for the benefit of creative minds and technocrats who qualify for Innovations 2011. This provides a great opportunity for innovators to get mentored by the stalwarts from the field of technology and management. The CIIE will make its expertise in incubating and mentoring available to select innovations from Innovations 2011. These would also be eligible to participate in MentorEdge, the mentoring programme from industry experts at CIIE.
