The Product – SMS GYAN
Everybody—irrespective of age, location or vocation—has questions to ask. These could be simple or complex. And not everyone with a doubt has access to the Internet to get the answers. Imagine being able to get all the information you ever needed by just sending an SMS? Well, SmsGYAN does just that!
SMSGYAN maintains a database connected to all the free online resources available on the Internet, such as Wikipedia, Google, etc. & has exclusively partnered with rich content players such as for movie/book reviews, weather, stock market & live score updates.
SMSGYAN brings the power of web onto your SMS inbox. This saves you precious time by giving an answer straightaway instead of displaying links. Rural India is still dominated by basic phones with no GPRS/internet connectivity and this is where SmsGyan really comes into play.
“GYAN” means knowledge in Hindi & the service is known as SMSGYAN because the name so aptly demonstrates what the product is doing – Spreading Knowledge through SMS, small chunks of meaningful knowledge bytes. Your Instant cup of knowledge!
The concept is extremely simple, yet the fact that a majority of phones in India are not smartphones which means that SMSGYAN – a product which can work on ANY PHONE- has an edge over others. SMSGYAN has signed up with Bharti Airtel this month and the SMS service is now active across 145 million mobile users in India.
In the long run, INNOZ plan to launch a web/wap version for GPRS users and integrate local language formats and provide rich GYAN over text and pictures.
Indian mobile market is growing extensively and is expected to grow strongly in future. However, the future will see enhanced contributions from the rural mobile market. Going forward, Gyan MVNO, a virtual operator for rural subscribers and thereby empowering masses through mobile education and learning solutions is the next step.
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on unreasonable man. – G B Shaw ”
Deepak and his team Innoz are trying another feat to be the first Indian company to reach the UNREASONABALE INSTITUTE and train with 25 other in USA in 2011.
The Unreasonable Marketplace selects out of the 300 entrepreneurs from 60 countries who applied to the 2011 Institute, 50 Finalists who are showcased on the Unreasonable Marketplace. Each entrepreneur has to raise $8000 from the marketplace over a period of 3 months. The first 25 Finalists to do so earliest are deemed Unreasonable Fellows and will attend the 2011 Institute.
The Unreasonable Fellows are invited to attend the 6-week summer program between June 16 and July 27, 2011. The institute provides an opportunity of working with 60-world class mentors, forming relationships with 30 impact investment funds, learning from consulting organizations like IDEO, pitching to hundreds of investors and getting 6-weeks of food and lodging without having to pay a dime.
