Apple anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) features will not be available at the initial launch of the upcoming iPhone and iPad software updates, according to a report by Bloomberg News on Sunday.
The iPhone maker plans to begin rolling out the new AI capabilities, Apple Intelligence, as part of software updates by October. These features will arrive a few weeks after the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which are scheduled for September.
Apple Intelligence will be available to software developers for early testing through the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta versions, expected to be released as soon as this week.
Apple has not responded immediately to requests for comments outside regular business hours. In June, the company emphasized its commitment to AI, introducing a range of new features and software enhancements for its devices to address declining sales.
Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images, and other content on demand, will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs equipped with the M1 chip and later versions. Additionally, iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia will allow users to view and interact with their iPhone screens on Mac computers.
The delay follows Apple’s decision in late June to postpone the launch of three new AI features. This decision was influenced by new European Union regulations that require Apple to ensure compatibility with rival products and services.
