In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates shared insights on how he utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) in his daily life. Gates revealed that he frequently turns to AI tools like ChatGPT for explanations on specific questions, particularly when learning about new topics. Since he often writes, Gates acknowledged that AI has become a valuable resource for assisting with his writing tasks.
Among the many features AI offers, Bill Gates highlighted his favorite: ChatGPT’s ability to generate summaries. He expressed that the feature he uses the most is the meeting summary function integrated into Microsoft Teams, a tool he relies on frequently. He noted, “The ability to interact and not just get the summary, but ask questions about the meeting, is pretty fantastic.”
Reflecting on the broader implications of AI, Gates remains optimistic about its potential to revolutionize sectors like health and education. He pointed out that AI is already proving to be an incredible tool for teachers, helping them to better engage with students and improve their work. “For the next decade, we’ll be experiencing increased productivity in many areas, which is overwhelmingly very good news,” Gates said.
While Gates is excited about AI’s benefits, he also cautioned about the spread of misinformation. He emphasized that younger generations must carefully consider the trade-offs between free speech and the risks of spreading false information through AI technologies.
Bill Gates has long been a proponent of AI’s transformative potential. In a previous note, he compared AI’s development to other groundbreaking innovations, such as microprocessors, personal computers, the Internet, and mobile phones.
He wrote, “It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. Entire industries will reorient around it. Businesses will distinguish themselves by how well they use it.”
