Apple has eliminated around 100 jobs in its digital services group, according to a Bloomberg News report. The most significant cuts affected the team responsible for the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore.
As reported by insiders, the layoffs include some engineering roles and other services teams, including the one that runs Apple News.
The exact number of employees within Apple’s services division remains unclear. According to its latest annual report, as of September 30, 2023, Apple employed approximately 161,000 full-time equivalent employees.
Apple has been reorganizing teams to align with shifting priorities, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence.
Earlier this year, the company suspended work on its next high-end Vision headset and discontinued a project to design and develop its own smartwatch displays.
These layoffs come as Apple faces ongoing challenges in China, its third-largest market. The company reported a 6.5% decline in sales in the region last quarter.
