YouTube has raised the prices of its Premium subscriptions in India by 12-58% across all plans, marking the first price hike since the Google-owned platform launched Premium subscriptions in the country in 2019.
YouTube Premium offers subscribers an ad-free viewing experience, the ability to play videos in the background, and the ability to download videos for offline playback. In an email to subscribers, YouTube explained that the price increase is necessary to “continue delivering great service and features.”
The company added, “We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
In addition to the Premium subscription, YouTube has also raised the prices of its music streaming service, YouTube Music. The individual plan now starts at ₹119 per month, up from ₹99 per month.
