Infosys has introduced a new ‘power program’ targeting colleges. Under this program, the company offers differentiated hiring packages that can go as high as ₹9 lahks per annum.
This initiative marks a notable departure from the IT giant’s standard entry-level packages, which typically range between ₹3 and 3.5 lakh per annum.
According to sources cited by the Economic Times, the new program focuses on candidates with strong coding, programming, and software development skills.
A person familiar with the matter noted, “The focus of these hiring categories is on coding and software challenges, programming skill testing, and other specialized skill tests for both tests and interviews.”
Under this program, Infosys offers pay packages ranging between ₹4-6.5 lakh and up to ₹9 lahks per annum, depending on the candidate’s expertise and the role.
Infosys’s move mirrors a similar initiative by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), known as ‘Prime,’ which focuses on the specialized hiring of freshers for software development roles.
TCS offers salary packages in the range of ₹9-11 lakh per annum under its Prime initiative. TCS hires freshers under three categories: ‘Ninja’ with packages around ₹3.6 lakh, ‘Digital’ at ₹7.5 lakh, and ‘Prime’ at the higher range.
Infosys plans to hire between 15,000 and 20,000 graduates in fiscal year 2025 (FY25). Jayesh Sanghrajka, Infosys’s Chief Financial Officer, highlighted during the company’s post-June quarter (Q1) earnings conference call that the company has adopted an “agile hiring base.” This approach includes hiring freshers from campus placements and off-campus drives.
However, the broader IT industry in India has seen a reduction in total headcount by more than 70,000 employees in 2024. While TCS reported an increase of 5,452 employees in the June quarter, Infosys experienced a reduction of nearly 2,000 employees during the same period. HCLTech added 1,078 freshers in the first quarter of FY25, down from 3,096 in the previous quarter.
