IT major Cognizant’s subsidiary, TriZetto, has filed a lawsuit against Infosys in a US federal court, accusing the Bengaluru-based company of stealing trade secrets and sensitive information related to healthcare insurance software.
The lawsuit, lodged in a Texas federal court, claims that Infosys illegally accessed data from TriZetto’s software products, Facets, and QNXT and used this information to develop and market a competing product.
In an official statement, Infosys denied all allegations made by Cognizant and TriZetto. The company acknowledged the lawsuit and stated that it would vigorously defend its position in court.
Cognizant’s lawsuit centers around two key offerings, TriZetto’s Facets and QNXT, which healthcare insurance firms widely use to automate various tasks. The lawsuit alleges that Infosys misused TriZetto’s software by creating “Test Cases for Facets” and repackaging this data into an Infosys product.
Additionally, Cognizant claims that Infosys developed software to extract data from QNXT, which contained confidential TriZetto information.
This legal battle comes shortly after Cognizant appointed Rajesh Varrier, a former Infosys executive, as its global head of operations and India Chairman and Managing Director.
Varrier’s appointment follows Rajesh Nambiar’s resignation, who is set to become the president of Nasscom. Notably, Cognizant’s CEO, Ravi Kumar S, is also an Infosys veteran, having spent 20 years at the company, including serving as its President from January 2016 to October 2022.
In summary, the lawsuit between Cognizant’s TriZetto and Infosys marks a significant conflict between two major IT companies, with the allegations of trade secret theft adding complexity to their competitive relationship.
